Victor Akelo

Victor is a medical doctor, based at the Centre for Global Health Research of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in Kenya, as part of the collaboration between KEMRI, Emory University, LSTM, and the US’s CDC.
He serves as Senior Science Director for site strategy and implementation for the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) network and recently joined LSTM’s Department of Clinical Sciences where he serves as Kenya site Director and Principal Investigator of Kenya CHAMPS site, and Antenatal and Postnatal Care Research Collaborative (ARC) studies.
He previously served as CDC-Kenya senior public health advisor and a Principal Research Officer/Chief of HIV Research Branch with KEMRI in Kisumu leading various clinical trials research and programs. Victor is a U.S. CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service and Emory Global Health Foege Fellow. He holds a master’s in public health and a medical degree from Emory University and Nairobi University.
