Michael Bauer

Michael is a Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at the University Hospital of Jena, Germany, and was Chief Executive Director of the Center for Sepsis Control Care (CSCC) from 2010 to 2024.
He received his M.D. from Saarland University and postgraduate training in molecular biology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD (1993 to 1995). After Board Certification in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, he was a visiting professor at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte (1998 to 1999).
Michael has published extensively in the fields of molecular mechanisms of sepsis and shock-related organ dysfunction with a focus on “theranostic” strategies to individualize intensive care medicine.
