Karen Choong

Karen is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Critical Care, and the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact at McMaster University. She is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed fellowships in Neonatology as well as Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Toronto. Professor Choong’s major research contributions are in the areas of PICU-based rehabilitation, patient-centered outcomes, and post-intensive care sequelae. Her EXERCISE research program (EXercise and Early Rehabilitation in Critically Ill children, a Systematic Evaluation) has pioneered evidence for early rehabilitation in critically ill children. Current projects which she is currently leading include REVIVe: Frailty, Rehabilitation and Outcomes in Critically ill Adult and Pediatric Survivors of COVID-19 and Acute respiratory tract infections (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT05246098); and POPCORN: Pediatric Outcome ImProvement through COordination of Research Networks (https://www.popcornpediatrics.ca/).
