Ian Hosein

Ian is a UK and Ireland-based Consultant Medical Microbiologist and Visiting Professor of Medical Microbiology at the University of the West Indies.

He has been known for innovation over the last 25 years and was the first to introduce alcohol gel into a UK National Health Service Hospital in 1994. He also created the pivotal leadership post of Director of Infection Prevention & Control in Cardiff, Wales which was then made mandatory for all hospitals in England.

He is an enthusiastic clinician and teaches healthcare staff that technology must be rooted with sound bedside skills in observation and clinical reasoning to achieve optimal infection diagnosis and management.
